Celebrate!

Today is my 29 year anniversary of my diagnosis with ovarian cancer. How does that make me feel? Euphoric! Greatly blessed! I was told at that time that 95% of patients with my type and stage of cancer die within 5 years. Every year on November 4, I remember that day and how far I have come.

We all have those turning points, those special days, to recall. Maybe it is the day someone came home from a war zone, or the day you moved into a new home, or the day a child was adopted. It is easy to get caught up in the routine day-to-day times and gloss over the memorable ones.

What is the appropriate response? Celebrate! Celebration can be as simple as going out for a family movie night or having a special dinner, to the simplest form, which is an open and grateful heart. Everywhere we turn there are celebrations! The autumn leaves turning color, the crazy irises that think it is spring, the bacon for breakfast, the state of heart. To celebrate is a choice, and it makes me and all those who encounter happy me, glad to be alive. Celebration is contagious.

Too often we focus on tasks to do and problems to solve, and don’t take time to savor the good that surrounds us. Mark your calendar for your own celebration days and plan to honor God’s goodness to you in the past and his enduring care. Celebrate!

Thanks, Terry, for these words of wisdom–which I am now celebrating!
