Welcome to The Holy Spirit’s Family Room

Change comes to us all. For me, change has meant a recent diagnosis of metastatic cancer. I don’t know what God has planned for me – no one of us does.

The song at Mass today, “Here I am Lord,” spoke loudly to my heart. God says, “I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone, I will speak my word to them, Whom shall I send?” I feel called. I feel sent to speak. Here I am, Lord.

I began this work because of a passionate belief in the power of the Holy Spirit to build community. The bonds we share, one with one another, make us the church and the people of God beyond boundaries. We can grow those bonds through shared activities and through nurturing one another. We need to connect with love, a sincere desire for the spiritual growth of one another. It’s not just about being nice, it includes the desire to live in fellowship and unity. Through the years we have aged. We have traveled
through COVID, devastating fires, floods, loss of homes and lifelong possessions, personal illlness, and the loss of our illusion of what is “normal.”

It has been my great privilege to accept the leading of the Holy Spirit to write the Family Room articles for my local parish, Our Divine Savior in Chico, for the past decade. When I began, I committed to do the weekly column as long as the Holy Spirit provided the content each week. The Holy Spirit has been faithful. I used to worry about what I would write, but I always received a weekly spark of insight.

I can no longer predict my days and commit to a weekly Family Room, but I won’t stop speaking God’s word of love! It is in my heart to share the amazing love that surrounds us with all of God’s people. I will
continue as God gives me the time and clarity of thought to write as the Holy Spirit directs me. Postings here will be strictly my own insights – with no official status. Please join me and spread the love!
